The family-owned company PRAGOSA, with branches in Portugal and Mozambique, is taking new steps in the digitalization of the construction sector and ranks among the leading employers in the region. Particular emphasis is placed on training and employee well-being, making PRAGOSA a highly attractive workplace. As a pioneer in the industry, the company was the first in Portugal to introduce digital solutions, thereby taking a significant step toward innovation.
With the introduction of the Q Machines technology, PRAGOSA adopted a solution that sustainably improves quality and efficiency in asphalt road construction. The objective was to optimize internal processes while at the same time easing working conditions for construction workers and machine operators. The first project using Q Machines involved the construction of transport infrastructure for a newly developed industrial zone. Given the complex conditions, the use of a documentation system proved particularly valuable.

The pilot project clearly highlighted the many benefits of digitalization. Right from the start, the advantages became evident through continuous temperature monitoring. Issues during material delivery, such as limestone absorbing bitumen, could be identified and avoided in the future. Thanks to documented data, it was possible to ensure quality and pinpoint areas requiring improvement. External conditions also influenced the positive outcome. Strong winds reduced the surface temperature of the asphalt mixture, but through the interaction of digital monitoring and efficient compaction, workers were able to complete the paving quickly and without compromising quality—an outcome that would not have been achievable without digital support.

To make the benefits of the new technology tangible, Site Manager Ruben Sousa initiated a practical test. One section of the construction site was handled without digital support, while the Q Machines system documented the work in parallel. In the next step, the operators received precise instructions directly from Q Machines. The subsequent comparison of the results made the differences unmistakable. The digital support demonstrated a clear advantage in terms of quality, efficiency, and resource conservation, while also highlighting the potential cost savings for future projects.

Following the successful test phase, PRAGOSA decided to expand the use of digital solutions across its machinery fleet. Several systems are already in operation, and further road construction projects have been successfully completed with their support. By choosing Q Machines, PRAGOSA reinforces its position as a pioneer in the digitalization of the construction sector in Portugal, while simultaneously enhancing both its competitiveness and its attractiveness as an employer.
