Digitalization in the Baltics – Sia Via Optimizes Road Construction Processes

Sia Via is a leading road construction company in Latvia, established in 1991. Over the years, the company has successfully completed a wide range of road construction projects of various scales. With its own asphalt team, in-house asphalt production, and laboratory, Sia Via provides all the necessary services for modern road construction. In 2024, the company decided to optimize the efficiency and precision of its work processes using digital solutions, leading to an innovative project in which digital technologies were employed for the first time on a large construction site.

The first major project to incorporate digital technologies was the partial renovation of the A10 and P124 highways in Latvia. The decision to use a digital solution was made in favor of the Q Machines system by Q Point, which was implemented in collaboration with ERCO Technologies. The flexibility of the system, which is suitable for almost any type of construction machinery, was a key factor in this choice. Despite the use of different types and models of machinery, the system provided precise and valuable data to optimize both asphalt laying and compaction processes.

The Q Machines system was installed on a Vögele paver (model year 2001) as well as a Dynapac roller. It was demonstrated that Q Machines, as a modern digital technology by Q Point, is also fully compatible with older machines. After a brief and efficient training, work was able to begin seamlessly.

The digital tools from Q Point brought numerous advantages to the construction site for Sia Via. A central feature was the precise temperature monitoring of the asphalt during the laying process with the paver. This allowed for the accurate control of optimal temperatures, ensuring a high-quality paving process. Another highlight was the monitoring of roller passes and temperature control during compaction. These features enabled even compaction and optimized the entire process, resulting in efficient use of both time and material resources.

The system not only improved work quality and speed but also simplified the workflow on-site and reduced the labor required. Thanks to the user-friendly handling and quick implementation, the project was completed smoothly and with the utmost satisfaction.

The renovation project for the A10 and P124 served as a successful test case for Sia Via in implementing digital technologies in road construction. The introduction of Q Machines proved highly beneficial, both in terms of increased efficiency and quality assurance throughout the construction process. The decision to incorporate digital tools was reflected not only in the swift implementation and user-friendliness of the system but also in the positive practical results achieved.

Sia Via has since adopted Q Point's digital systems as the standard for its road construction projects. The use of these advanced technologies is now an integral part of daily operations, enabling even greater precision and efficiency in future projects.
